US friends Start Program of Solidarity with Cuba
Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Jul 6. -The arrival of a group of US friends will mark the beginning of a month of solidarity with Cuba that will end with the visit of the Pastors for Peace Caravan.
The group, consisting of a dozen teachers, will start the program tonight for three days in this western province, where teachers will talk with residents of various localities and will appreciate the results of an art project designed for children with down syndrome.
During their stay in the country, they will participate in a day of support to the cause for the release of five Cubans imprisoned in U.S. jails for over a decade, announced to Prensa Latina local officials from the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) .
The second group named Eco-Cuba, will arrive in this region on July 10, after a tour around the community of Las Terrazas and science centers located in the Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve in Artemisa province.
Composed of more than 40 people, the group will talk with researchers of the area about reforestation efforts and sustainable management of natural resources.
Venceremos Brigade will be here from 21 to 25 July, during which period they will dialogue with students and workers during tours around economic and social centers. The Pastors for Peace Caravan will be in the region between 24 and 27 of the current month to attend voluntary works organized in a fishing village.
In total more than 800 friends came, mostly from the United States, Canada, Austria and Sweden. (Prensa Latina)
