FIFA Ethics Committee Probes Blatter

FIFA Ethics Committee Probes BlatterBerne, May 28. -The Ethics Committee of FIFA, the international governing body of soccer, opened a disciplinary proceeding against its own president, Joseph Blatter, the organization announced Friday.

The proceeding against Blatter, who must answer questions in the Ethics Committee on Sunday, was opened after a Qatari FIFA official, Mohamed Bin Hammam, accused him of corruption.

Bin Hammam, a member of the FIFA Executive Committee and BlatterâÖs adversary in the election for the FIFA presidency, was responding to accusations against him for alleged misconduct in the selection process for the 2022 World Soccer Championship venue, finally won by his country.

The proceeding against the current FIFA president is based on statements by CONACAF general secretary Chuck Blazer of Australia, who would have allegedly informed Blazer in advance of possible bribery, without any opposition from Blatter.

The person responsible for dispensing justice in the Committee will hold a hearing with those involved on May 29 at FIFA headquarters in Zurich. (Prensa Latina)
