ICAP thanks Caribbean solidarity with Cuba to fight Covid-19

Havana, Oct 26.- The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) thanked the Solidarity Movements with Cuba for their support to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an official letter signed by Fernando González, ICAP´s President, the state-run institution thanked the efforts to send donations, which were joined by personalities, associations of Cuban residents or graduates of universities in Cuba as well as political and social organizations.

‘We´re pleased and encouraged to see that in spite of difficulties we are all facing up, marked by challenges and consequences of this deadly disease, supportive friends extend their hand to our small island,’ the letter read.

At the same time, the document recognized the significance of this support in the face of consequences of the US blockade imposed on Cuba, tightened during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Each contribution means feelings of brotherhood and solidarity that unite us, that make us feel proud to have you all as friends, it added.

The document also ratified the legacy of solidarity between Cuba and Caribbean nations.

This is evidenced by the work conducted by health professionals from the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade, who have aided over 20 countries and five non-independent territories to confront Covid-19 in the region.

Food and medical supply donations from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, St. Lucia, as well as St. Kitts and Nevis have recently arrived in Havana to support the fight against the disease.
