[:es]Fidel’s Legacy and Revolutionary Imprint Highlighted in Venezuela[:]

[:es]Caracas, Nov 24.- Venezuelan media today extolled the legacy of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, as part of events being held here to pay tribute to him on the first anniversary of his death tomorrow.

In an editorial, the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN) noted the Cuban commander’s dedication to the struggle for world peace, social justice and the people’s self-determination.

AVN noted that the peoples of the world consider Fidel a historic leader who fought against social injustice and imperialism.

It recalled his origin in his native Biran, his first years, as well as his academic education starting in a public school in his hometown to his revolutionary formation at the University of Havana, from where he graduated as a doctor in Civil Law and a bachelor in Diplomatic Law.

‘It was in that educational center where Fidel took his first steps in political struggles, holding posts in the University Students’ Federation,’ AVN noted.

The news agency emphasized the actions in which Fidel participated as a leader during his struggle against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship, like the attacks on the garrisons Moncada, in Santiago de Cuba, and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, in Bayamo, on July 26, 1953.

‘At the time, he did not achieve the goals and was captured by the repressive forces, later he stood trial and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and assumed his self-defense. He was tried and he said in court his famous phrase, ‘Condemn me, it does not matter, history will absolve me’, the Venezuelan News Agency noted.

AVN pointed out that the Cuban leader did not daunt and from prison he continued his work denouncing the Batista regime, which was overthrown on January 1, 1959, when the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro triumphed.

During the years of the Revolution, Fidel promoted and led the Cuban people’s struggle for the consolidation of the revolutionary process, its advance toward socialism, the unity of the revolutionary forces and the entire people, the economic and social transformations of the country, AVN reported.

It also highlighted Cuba’s achievements under the leadership of the commander in education, public health, sports, culture, sciences and defense. (PL)[:]
