Cuban Dayron Robles Conquers Stockholm, Xiang Disqualified
Stockholm, 23 Feb. – Cuban 110-hurdle sprinter Dayron Robles won the 60 meters indoors competition in the athletic meeting of Stockholm, Sweden, in a competition in which Chinese Liu Xiang was disqualified.
Robles, 110-meter world record holder and current Olympic Champion, covered the distance in 7.66 seconds, valid to lead his countryman Orlando Ortega (7.68) and Belarusian Maksim Lynsha (7.73), silver and bronze medallists, respectively.
This way, the Cuban hurdle sprinter took revenge from Xiang, who beat him one week ago in the British meeting of Birmingham.
Robles shows the third best record in indoor tracks, with 7.33, was below his expectations because, beyond the victory, the time achieved Thursday is distant from his ambitions.
Meanwhile, Cuban female triple jump athlete Yargelis Savigne obtained the silver medal in triple jump, beaten only by Ukrainian Olga Saladukha.
Savigne led the competition until the sixth round of jumps with her best performance, 14.47 meters, however in her last jump, Saladukha stretched out up to 14.79 and deprived the Caribbean athlete from getting the title.
Both contestants registered their best performances of the season, although in the case of the Ukrainian athlete, this one also represented the longest triple jump in her life.(PL)
