Cuba to Reorient Strategy on Important Export Item
Havana, Dec 21. -Cuba will reorient its strategy in the field of shrimp raising by taking a series of actions to improve efficiency, quality and control, and to find new markets.On the first working day of commissions before the 8th Ordinary Sessionof the People´s Power National Assembly (Parliament) of the 7th Legislature, scheduled for December 23, lawmakers learned about the development of that major export item.
The issue was analyzed by the members of the parliamentary commissions on Agriculture and Food Production, Education, Culture and Science, who agreed on the idea that this productive activity is eminently technical and violations on its vital parameters are inadmissible.
In that regard, they called to reinforce the quality control of the whole productive process and the protection of the product.
They insisted on the need to introduce new reproductive agents in Cuba to maintain the genetic quality, and to increase investments to improve the infrastructure of shrimp companies, canals, ponds and cooling systems.
Cuba will also explore new markets, formats and varieties in order to increase revenues.
The lawmakers also noted the need to improve working conditions for shrimp raisers. (Prensa Latina)
