Omara Portuondo Cheerful with Grammy Nomination
Havana, Sep 17. -Omara Portuondo, "the bride of Feeling", expressed her delight with her nomination to the Latin Grammy 2011 for the Best Child Album with the CD Cantar y Reir."I love working for children, that conveys the love surrounding my first project for infants, and this candidature doubles my pleasure," she stressed.
This production by Bis Music consists of 14 songs chosen from the traditional child music repertoire, like Juan me tiene sin cuidado; Carpintero; El soldadito de plomo; and El cangrejito.
Those songs belonged to Enriqueta Almanza (1934-1996) whom she honors because of her outstanding work destined to the children, and as she noted, childhood is the supreme stage for humans and children deserve many more such productions.
A winner of the Latin Music 2005 Billboard Award, Portuondo congratulated the students of Alejandro Garcia Caturla Elementary Music School for their contribution to the CD.
Omara, Diva of Buena Vista Social Club and winner of the Latin Grammy 2009 through her album Gracias, now runs against six nominees, among them Peruvian Jessica Sarango (El camioncito verde), and Brazil's Pato Fu Group (Musica de Brinquedo).
Cuba's 2011 nominees for the Golden Phonographs for Best Tropical Traditional Album are Adalberto Alvarez y su son with El son de altura and Septeto Santiaguero and its Oye mi son santiaguero. (Prensa Latina)
