Cuban Defense Drill Meteoro 2014 ContinuesHavana, May 18.- The two-day Cuban civil defense drill Meteoro 2014 is on its final stage today to verify actions implemented to strengthen the country's capacities to face hurricanes, great magnitude seisms and health-related disasters.

Activities to train residents in high-risk communities are being developed for their protection in different situations, in line with risk-related studies that have been carried out.

These exercises are aimed at curbing community vulnerabilities by prioritizing cleaning to fight disease vectors, as well as restoration of hurricane-hit houses.

The citizens and civil defense forces prune trees and clean streets using resources available in their communities.

Meteoro 2014 started yesterday by defining activities to be carried out and verifying technical resources and communications, including the emergency network of the radio ham system and other alternative media. (Prensa Latina).
