Glauber Rocha Award Jury in HavanaHavana, Dec 9. – Prior to the end of the 33rd Havana Cinema Festival, the foreign press accredited in Cuba meets on Friday to elect the film for the Glauber Rocha Award, sponsored by Prensa Latina.

Professionals from international press agencies such as France Press, Efe, Reuters, Dpa, Vna, Xinhua, Notimex, Ansa, and correspondents from other media like Telesur and CNN television channels will elect the full-length figure film that reflects with high artistic level the social reality of the region and the struggle for human improvement.

Founded in 1985, the award is aimed at "encouraging the new Latin American movie movement, which burst forth with singular force in the 60s to seek a decolonized visual image."

Its promoters decided to give the name of late Brazilian filmmaker Glauber Rocha, one of the pioneers of that movement and director of 15 documentaries and full-length figure films, among them classic works such as "Antonio das Mortes" and "Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol."

The award consists on a work by Cuban painter Arturo Montoto.(Prensa Latina)
