Guatemalan President Confirms Elections Runoff Date
Caracas, Oct 22. -Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom confirmed that the presidential elections runoff will be held on November 6, despite the state of disaster decreed due to the heavy rains.In statements to Telesur, Colom said that they are working to guarantee the voters' access to polling stations and there is no reason to postpone the voting.
The president added that the state of emergency due to the rains and the need for funds to assist the rainfall victims and counter the damage do not affect the electoral process.
Colom acknowledged that the opposition has been blocking the State's funds since November 2010, and there are serious problems to finance the basic, security, and justice services, and now the emergency. (Prensa Latina)
