Cuban Boxing Team to PanAm Tournament in Venezuel
Havana, Mar 23. -Light welterweight fighter Rosnel Iglesias will lead the Cuban boxing team to the Pan American Boxing Tournament in Cumana, Venezuela, March 25-30, the Cuban Boxing Federation announced Wednesday.
In addition to Iglesias, world champion in Milan 2009, now recovered from an injury to his left thumb, middleweight Emilio Correa Jr. is leading the group.
Other team members are heavyweight Erislandy Savon (former World Junior Champion) and Cuban national champions Yasniel Toledo (60 kg) and Leinier Perot (91 kg).
The team also includes flyweight Robeisis Ramirez, welterweight Arisnoide Despaigne, light flyweight Yorman Rodriguez and featherweight Lazaro Alvarez.
The objective for the group coached by Rolando Acebal is to ensure their participation in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, in October.
They still have one more chance in a tournament in Quito, Ecuador, from April 30 to May 6, and another in June, in venue that has not yet been decided.
Cumana will be the host of a contest with the presence of 24 countries, for four slots in Guadalajara in each division from 48 to 75 kg, and three for the 81, 91 and over-91 kg divisions.
Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the United States will be competing. (Prensa Latina)
