Dominicans in Solidarity with Cuba
Santo Domingo, Oct 7. -Dominican organizations of solidarity with Cuba have been carrying out events this week to mark the anniversary of the death of Cuban-Argentinian guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara, against the US blockade and for the freedom of The Five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unfairly held in US prisons.
Organizers, including the Dominican Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba and the Alternative Social Forum, among others, announced a program scheduled to start on Thursday at the Santo Domingo Autonomous University with a lecture by Cuban Ambassador Juan Astiasaran entitled "Cuba: Beyond the Blockade."
The program also includes a photo exhibit to be opened on October 8 by Dominican photographer Felix Jacinto Breton at the Maximo Gomez House-Museum, where the significant Montecristi Manifesto was signed. The place is also known as Cuba's Liberty Cradle.
On October 10 there will be an ascent of Resoli Fort, a historical monument built at the summit of Resoli Mountain during Haitian occupation in 1822-1844 under Haitian Gen. Jean Baptiste Richet's orders. (Prensa Latina)
