Pastors for Peace Visit Cuban Region of Cienaga de Zapata
The Executive Director of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization IFCO-Pastores por la Paz, Gail Walker, is in charge of the caravanistas, who were welcomed in Cienaga de Zapata by political, government and religious authorities.
Gail is the daughter of Reverend Lucius Walker, whose initiative and friendship with Cuban leader Fidel Castro has led to this solidarity trip to Cuba since 1992.
The welcoming took place in Palpite, home of the Korimakao community cultural project, founded 27 years ago, in charge of taking the different artistic manifestations to the most isolated areas of this wild biosphere reserve.
Pastors for Peace arrived in Cuba on June 25, and after their visit to Matanzas, they left for Cienfuegos (center/south), where they will remain until July 2, when they will return to Havana to go back to their respective countries three days later.
This 30th edition is composed of people from the United States, Canada and Mexico, and throughout these years the caravan is one of the flagship projects of global solidarity towards Cuba, as among their demands is the lifting of the economic blockade.(Prensa Latina)
