Cuban Tourism Grows 10 pct So Far in 2019

Madrid, Jan 26.- Cuban tourism grows 10 percent so far this year, stressed in Madrid Minister of that sector in Cuba, Manuel Marrero.

This is very important for us, although we are neither quiet nor satisfied because, although we have recovered in Canada, Europe is not yet recovering. We can exempt Spain from this, which practically ended 2018 with the same level of passengers than in 2017 (168.000) and started 2019 with a positive trend, he specified.

The Cuban tourism indicators continue to grow from a positive point of view. So far this year we start with a significant growth in Canada, said Marrero during a meeting with tour operators, travel agents, airlines and actors of the Spanish market as a part of the International Tourism Fair Fitur 2019, which concludes next Sunday in this capital.

The Minister referred to a new generation of five-star luxury hotels in Havana and Varadero, such as the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski Havana, the Iberostar Grand Packard and in the coming days will open the Melia International Varadero hotel ‘which will be the best of that resort.

A new variety of hotels is being introduced to make a difference. This is part of the strategy to find more competitive products to meet customer expectations. There has been a gradual change to the positive in terms of quality, he pointed out.

He also said that an important renovation process of hotel plant continues, ‘I mean, we are not only building new hotels, but also investing each year in thousands of rooms being modernized.

The official highlighted the presence in Fitur of entrepreneurs at the highest level. People are coming to reach agreements, to look for how to invest in Cuba, how to be able to send more tourism to the island.

He explained that the Tourism Ministry will make many investments, several hotel will be opened, an important number of recreation and leisure facilities will be made. It is going to be a year of many events and cultural shows, he added. (Prensa Latina)
