Villa Clara, Las Tunas Lead Division in Cuban Baseball

Havana, February 26. – The Villa Clara team defeated Industriales 11-3 and tied with Las Tunas in first place in the eastern division of the Cuban National Baseball Series.

Villa Clara and Las Tunas currently have 36 wins and 21 defeats and head the eastern division by two and a half games ahead of Santiago de Cuba (3rd), and three and a half of Ciego de Avila (4th).

In the afternoon session on Saturday, outfielder Alfredo Despaigne of the Granma team continued his outstanding performance in the series, leading his team to win by 9-3 over Pinar del Rio, after making a homer and four RBIs.

Despaigne, cleanup hitter of the recent national teams, on Saturday hit his 23rd homer and reached 68 RBIs, figures whose projections at the end of the season suggest he might set two absolute records for a single National Baseball Series.(Prensa Latina)
