Cuba: Int’l Conference Debates Environmental Policy

Havana, Jul 8. -Environmental policy and instruments and contributions to ecosystem management are being debated on Friday at the 8th International Convention on Environment and Development.

At the event, which ends today, experts from 35 countries are discussing theoretical and practical aspects of environment and sustainable development in five congresses and three colloquiums, as well as an exhibition fair.

"Sustainable Buildings, a comparison of two construction systems and resource efficiency" and "Tools for community environmental management to strengthen local actions," were some of the issues on the agenda for the 5th Congress on Environmental Management.

Alternative products and climate change, and climate change and professional training, will be also discussed in the framework of the 2nd Congress on Climate Change.

Protected areas, environmental education, environmental management, ecosystem and biodiversity, climate change, environmental right, and hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment, are also important issues in this forum.

Those topics have also been addressed in the 8th Congress on Environmental Education, the 7th Congress on Protected Areas, the 5th Congress on Environmental Management, the 2nd Congress on Climate Change and the 3rd Congress on Ecosystems and Biodiversity.

The 3rd Colloquium on Hazard, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment, the 2nd Colloquium on Law and Environmental Justice and the 2nd Colloquium on Environmental Land Management are also being held in parallel to this Convention.

The 8th International Convention on Environment and Development is sponsored by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment; the Environment Agency; the Center for Information, Education and Environmental Management, and the National Center on Protected Areas, among other institutions.
