Cuban Economy at Trade & Investment Forum in China

Beijing, May 17. – Cuba ratified in this capital its desire to continue strengthening economic-trade relations with China, granting a special importance to joint actions of the binational management committee. The statement was made by the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba (CCC), Estrella Madrigal, at the World Forum of Trade and Investment Promotion Organizations.

Madrigal explained some aspects of the Cuban economy and its goals until 2016, in which Chinese companies are called to play an increasingly active role, sources from the visiting delegation told Prensa Latina on Thursday.

The Cuban official highlighted as guidelines of the plan, the priority to increase and diversify exports, together with the reduction of imports and the reorientation of investments to make it more comprehensive.

She also mentioned the recovery of the export capacity of traditional items, and its estimulation in the case of services, mainly those related to health and tourism.

The CCC president recalled that Cuba has not been exempted from the impacts of the global crisis, evident, among other aspects, in the instability of prices, in addition to the U.S. economic, trade and financial blockade.

Talking about the development of bilateral relations, Madrigal stated that trade ties have been substantially strengthened, a noticeable fact considering that that China is Cuba's second major trading partner.(Prensa Latina)
