Forlan Leads PL's Sports SurveyHavana, Dec 9. -Uruguay Footballer Diego Forlan has received 40 votes to lead Prensa Latina's annual survey to choose the best Latin American and Caribbean athlete of the year.

Forlan, Golden Ball award winner in South Africa-2010 World Cup, recieved Wednesday the support of Radio Patria Nueva and La Epoca weekly of Bolivia, to cap the poll's men's category.

The striker, champion with the Atlético de Madrid of the 2010 European League, easily leads the contest over Argentinian Lionel Messi who has received 15 votes.

In their ballots, Radio Patria Nueva and La Epoca voted for Brazilian pole-vaulter Fabiana Murer, winner of the Doha indoor world championships and the 2010 Diamond League as the Best Latin American Female Athlete. She leads the survey with 24 votes, nine on top of Cuban triple jumper Yargelis Savigne, also winner of the Diamond League and silver medalist in Doha.

As best team, the Bolivian radio station chose Argentina's women's field hockey team, winner of the Rosario-2010 World Cup, and the weekly voted for Brazil's men volleyball team that leads the survey with 35 votes.

Brazil's Inter de Porto Alegre is second with 12 ballots and Argentina's jockey team is third (10).
