Cuban VP Begins Visit to China
Sep 25. -Ricardo Cabrisas, vice president of the Cuban Council of Ministers, begins a visit to China on Saturday that will include meetings with important authorities and attendance at the 50th anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Cabrisas will carry out the first part of his visit in Shanghai, where shortly after his arrival, he met with that city's mayor, Han Zheng, accompanied by Cuban Ambassador Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernandez.
Later, he will participate in a ceremony at the Cuban pavilion at the World Expo related to the 50th anniversary festivities.
Beginning Monday, Cabrisas will be in Beijing to meet with central government authorities and on Tuesday, he will participate in the official main event in that city for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On September 28, 1960, Cuba became the first Latin American or Caribbean country to initiate diplomatic relations with the new China.
As part of the planned festivities, an exhibition of Cuban paintings opens today in the capital with the presence of several of the artists. (PL)
