Cuban Legislators Debate General Customs

Cuban Legislators Debate General Customs Havana, Jul 30. – Cuban legislators will hear reports on Friday about the General Customs of the Republic, prior to the fifth session period of the Cuban Parliament''s seventh legislature.

In addition, parliamentary deputy Alexis Leyva (Kcho) will speak on the work of the Martha Machado artistic brigade that recently was in Haiti to support victims of the January 12 earthquake, which killed more than 222,000 people, wounded 300,000 and left 1.5 million homeless.

On Thursday, the Cuban Parliament's 12 standing commissions concluded two days of deliberations on the island's most important political, economic and social aspects. Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon stated that the U.S. stance on the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in that northern nation for almost 12 years is a case of state-sponsored terrorism.

Addressing the International Relations Commission, the parliamentary leader urged increasingly greater efforts to achieve the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez.
Alarcon slammed the mass media's silence and manipulation of the case of the Cuban Five, as they are universally known, since their arrest on September 12, 1998.

The top Cuban legislator reiterated accusations against Washington for the critical health situation of Gerardo, who is suffering from physical problems and has been confined to solitary without any reason.(Prensa Latina)
