Cuba condemns US persecution against Julian Assange

Havana, Dec 11.- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez condemned the United States harassment against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, and warned of the consequences for the world.

By persecuting Assange, the US seeks revenge and punishment for revelations of its war crimes and interference practices, the head of Cuban diplomacy wrote.

Rodriguez pointed out that the US power intends to set an example against anyone who denounces its criminal conduct, which would have serious consequences for journalism and the freedom of expression.

The United Kingdom’s High Court of Justice on Friday accepted an appeal by US prosecutors against an earlier verdict denying Assange’s extradition.

The WikiLeaks founder has been in prison since April 2019, when the Government of President Lenin Moreno revoked his diplomatic protection after seven years of confinement in the Ecuadorian legation in London.
