Cuba: Debates at HAVMUN 2012 Will Focus on Human Rights Havana, Mar 19. – Human Rights will be the focus of the debates of the 17th Havana Model United Nations, HAVMUN 2012, to be held from March 19th through the 23rd, where international agenda topics will be addressed.

At least 300 students from Cuban and foreign universities will role-play as diplomats in the sessions of that international organization from the stance of the 104 UN member states, distributed in 5 working commissions, local media reported.

Bryan Gual Navarrete, secretary general of the meeting, pointed out that this edition will be dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the United Nations Association of Cuba (ACNU) and the 20th anniversary of the Rio de Janeiro Conference for Sustainable Development.

Over 60 delegates from Ecuador, Mexico, the United States and Russia, and other participants will focus on the promotion and consolidation of peace, environmental care, the fulfilment of the Millennium Goals, and questions related to the refugees.

Gual Navarrete emphasized the importance of this meeting for the training of students, due to the arduous preparation prior to the Conference, which includes over 40 scientific and general lectures on topics like negotiation techniques and the history of the United Nations.(Prensa Latina)
