Havana Historian to Be Awarded in Italy
Havana Nov 26. -Havana Historian Eusebio Leal will receive the 2011 Foedus Award on December 14 in Rome.The award acknowledges outstanding figures in the world of culture and promotion of solidarity.According to the Office of the City Historian, Foedus Foundation President Mario Baccini said the award will be granted to Leal due to his restoration work in Havana's historic heart, which this month celebrated its 492nd anniversary.
He will also receive the award for his contribution to foster the city's cultural and social life, sensitivity and identification with the Italian culture, and its commitment to promote it in Cuba, Baccini noted.
The Foedus Foundation, based in Rome and New York, was founded in 2003 with the objective of boosting cultural development and the spirit of solidarity in the social-economic environment, fighting poverty, supporting policies to protect natural resources and the environment, and encouraging the progress of sciences and technologies.
