Ghana´s President Receives Cuban Vice President
Havana, Oct 25. -Ghana´s President John Evans Atta Mills received Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo at the end of a three-day visit to that African country, media reported on Tuesday.Lazo conveyed Atta Mills a message from President Raul Castro, and expressed satisfaction for the visit to Ghana, which concluded on Monday, Granma newspaper stated.
In the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed the firm willingness to strengthen relations of friendship between both States, and discussed the international situation.
Lazo´s agenda included talks with his Ghanaian peer John Dramani Mahama, who renewed his support for the immediate return to Cuba of Cuban antiterrorist fighter Rene Gonzalez, now on supervised release in the United States.
Lazo also expressed his wish for the prompt release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez. They, along with Rene, were unjustly detained in September 1998 and condemned to harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to double life terms.
The National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in Ghana organized a mass ceremony to ratify support to Havana, and Lazo thanked Accra´s support to Cuba for over 50 years of diplomatic relations. (Prensa Latina)
