China Boosts Initiatives with the Caribbean

Beijing, Sep 13. -China will grant preferential loans valued at one billion USD to support the economic development of Caribbean countries, according to reports from a bilateral meeting taking place in Trinidad and Tobago.Reports from Port of Spain states that the initiative was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Wang Qishan during the opening on Monday of the 3rd China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, to be concluded today.

Wang said his country will enhance collaboration in those Caribbean territories in sectors such as finances, investments, environmental protection, health, tourism, trade, agriculture, fishing and education, among others.

Asia will also help to build an early warning network of seism and tsunamis, in addition of training people to face disasters.

This forum is a mechanism for dialogue between China and the Caribbean states, with the objective of boosting cooperation for common development.

The first meeting was held in Kingston, Jamaica, in 2005 and the second one in Xiamen, China, in 2007. (Prensa Latina)
