Danny Glover: a Fighter for Justice and Humanity

Danny Glover: a Fighter for Justice and HumanityHavana, Jun 14. -"We should be capable of giving life to all projects that come to our imagination, and of building a world full of hope and justice for all of humanity," U.S. actor Danny Glover said in the Cuban capital on Tuesday.

"I made a commitment eight years ago to the wives and relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters imprisoned in the United States since 1998; hence, mi contribution to the English-language version of the documentary The Trial, the Untold Story," Glover told Prensa Latina before addressing the seminar Cuba and the People of African Descent in America.

Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez are currently serving harsh sentences solely for gathering information about terrorist activities carried out by anti-Cuban organizations in Miami, Florida.

"I wanted the story of the five antiterrorists to be known by my community and the world," Glover stated.

The 78-minute documentary, directed by Rolando Almirante, presents details of the rigged legal proceedings against the Cuban Five, as they are universally known.

Danny Glover is a member of the International Commission for the Right to Family Visits for the Cuban Five. He visited Gerardo Hernandez at the high-security prison in Victorville, California, in August 2010.

The seminar Cuba and the People of African Descent in America will conclude June 17 and is being attended by lecturers from the UN, the United States, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Uruguay and Cuba. (Prensa Latina)
