3rd Montecristo Golf Cup in Cuba

Havana, Mar 28. -The 3rd Montecristo Golf Cup is today a bright opportunity to lovers of this sports.

The tournament, to be held on April 14-16 in the Varadero beach resort, 140 kilometers (87 miles) east of Havana, is expected to be attended by golfers from 12 countries, including British Tony Jacklin, organizers reported.

The event, sponsored by international corporation Habanos S.A., bears the name of a Premium Cuban cigar brand.

The first edition of this event took place in May 2009, in the presence of South African golfer Ernie Els, one of the world�s finest players and guest of honor to the competition.

About 72 amateur and professional golfers from Germany, Canada, France, Spain, Mexico, Uruguay, the United States, Ireland, Aruba, Britain, Russia and Cuba are expected to attend the competition, the release states.

Cuban tourist authorities plan to construct over 10 golf courses to foster the practice of this sport. (Prensa Latina)
