Cuba Defends Right to Peace in Geneva

Geneva, Feb 27. – Peace is the main condition to enjoy all human rights, particularly life, Cuban diplomat Juan Antonio Quintanilla stated in this city.

Addressing the 8th session of the UN Human Rights Council Advisory Committee, the Cuban representative said that in order to preserve peace, everything that threatens it, such as war and, particularly, the possibility of using nuclear weapons, needs to be eradicated.

Quintanilla recalled a recent reflections by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, entitled "World Peace Hanging by a Thread", in which he analyzes the "political situation surrounding Iran and the associated risks of a nuclear war that involves us all â�öregardless of whether one possess nuclear weapons."

In the face of such situation, in which the use of just 100 warheads would determine the nuclear winter, is increasingly powerful to advance in the objective of general and complete disarmament, the diplomat stated.

Quintanilla described as unacceptable that the current world spends more in means to make a war and less in promoting the right to development.(Prensa Latina)
