Bicycle Tour in Havana for Protecting Environment

Havana, May 10 .-Cyclists, visitors and locals will ride bicycles on the coming May 26 several Havana sites, an initiative developed by the European Union in Cuba in favor of environmental protection, the organizers announced.

 

The Office of the City Historian, one of the entities that joins this project, highlights in its Cultural Program the tour starts in the Plaza de Armas, next to the Second Cape Palace, where the Center for the Interpretation of Cultural Relations Cuba-Europe is located.

Cycling for the climate: for a future without polluting emissions, as this initiative is called, it will follow its itinerary along the Havana Malecon to Linea street in the Vedado neighbourhood, to reach its final point in the Almendares Park.

According to the organizers, participation is open to anyone interested and minors must be accompanied by an adult. There is also the possibility of renting a bicycle for the activity.

The initiative is part of the activities to mark the 500 year anniversary of the founding of Havana, the Green Diplomacy Week fostered by the European Union around the world, as well as World Environment Day, which is held throughout the world on June 5 and this year will be dedicated to the fight against air pollution.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands’ embassy, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment join the project, as well as Ha’Bici, the first public bicycle system to travel through Havana’s historic center, which was launched in late 2018.
