Art in the Streets at Havana Biennial

Havana, May 5. – Public spaces in this capital will be among the main scenarios of the 11th edition of the Havana Biennial, in which 114 artists from 45 countries will exhibit their works along streets, squares and parks.

Different esthetics modalities, including traditional ones and those related to the latest technologies, will be present in this edition of the biennial; a meeting that raises expectations among local people, tourists and visitors in Havana, due its outdoors works.

The Havana Biennial will open on May 11 for a month in spaces surrounding the Grand Theater of Havana and the National Museum of Fine Arts to exhibit world contemporary art.

One of nine collective projects of the biennial will be exhibited at the Esplanade de la Punta, which will reach the Tower of San Lazaro.

Other venues of the biennial will be the Pabellon Cuba, one of the most popular places among young people due to its cultural offers.

The Cuban artist JEFF will exhibit his gigantic apple of inflated metal, in an open space meters away from 23rd Avenue and Malecon, in El Vedado neighbourhood.

Teachers and students from the Higher Art Institute will present a project to be exhibited at the school, and the collateral exhibition HB, sponsored by the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets, will open at Pabexpo.

The Castle of the Royal Force and the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress will be also venues of the event.

Conceived in its first edition in 1984 as a meeting of Latin American and Caribbean contemporary art, the Havana Biennial has left the museums and exhibition sites to take place in open spaces.(Prensa Latina)
