Cuba Exchanges Solidarity with Organizations Worldwide

Cuba Exchanges Solidarity with Organizations Worldwide Havana, May 2. – The Cubans and more than one thousand representatives from union organizations and social movements worldwide on Wednesday will express solidarity in this capital with the best causes of the peoples.

Parallel to the traditional issues of support to Cuba are the battles carried out by millions of workers in the humanity protesting for the effects of the global economic crisis, organizers of the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba stated.

Participants from several countries will take part of the forum, to be held today at the Havana's Conference Center, a day after mass marches in squares and avenues on occasion of May Day celebrations.

Among issues to debate are the actions to demand the return to the island of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in U.S. prisons for more than 13 years. Their real crime was to monitor Miami-based violent groups operating with impunity against his country.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, the latter in supervised release since October, were detained in September 1998 in Miami, and condemned to harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to double life plus 15 years.

The general secretary of the Cuban Workers' Union (CTC), Salvador Valdes, on Tuesday sent the examples of solidarity from the Cubans to the workers worldwide who are victims of the global economic crisis, protest, and are brutally repressed for demanding their rights.(Prensa Latina)
