Uruguayan Soccer Coach Elected World Best in 2011
Montevideo, Jan 2. -Oscar Washington Tabarez, coach of the national soccer team of Uruguay, was elected the world''s best in 2011, according to a survey of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) published on Monday.Tabarez, known in this country as The Master, won the 2011 Copa America while leading the Uruguayan team, which in a recent survey by the Prensa Latina news agency was awarded the best team of the region last year.
The IFFHS survey, widely reported in the country on Monday, included representatives of more than 80 countries.
Tabarez totaled 200 points and was followed by Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque (186), and German Joachim Low (169).
The top-ten list also includes Dutch Bert van Marwick (81) in fourth place, while the fifth and sixth rankings were taken by Italians Alberto Zaccheroni (24) and Fabio Capello (23), coaches of Japan and England, respectively.
The list was completed by Danish Morten Olsen (20) in seventh place, Venezuelan coach Cesar Farias (12) tied in eighth place along with Italian Giovanni Trapattoni, coach of the Irish team, and Croatian Slaven Bilic (11) closed the list. (Prensa Latina)
