Cuban Vice President Visits EthiopiaAddis Ababa, Jul 8. -Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo carried out a brief working visit to Ethiopia, where he met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hailemariam Desalegn.

The two sides assessed the state of fraternal relations between their countries.

Desalegn reaffirmed his people and government's support and solidarity with Cuba's struggle for development and sovereignty.

Lazo explained in detail the results of the 6th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), held in April, and national efforts to update the economic model.

Lazo and his accompanying delegation laid a wreath at the monument in the capital's Central Square to the Cuban internationalist combatants who gave their lives in defense of Ethiopia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Cuban official also held a meeting with Cuban cooperation workers that was attended by the leadership of the Cuban-Ethiopian Friendship Association and many professionals from this country who earned their university degrees in Cuba.

Lazo and his accompanying delegation will travel to the city of Juba, the capital of the new African state of South Sudan, to represent Cuba at the founding ceremony on Saturday.

The Cuban delegation also comprised PCC Central Committee member Jorge Risquet, Deputy Foreign Minister Marcos Rodriguez, and Ambassador Clara Pulido. (Prensa Latina)
