Cuban VP at Kirchner's WakeBuenos Aires, Oct 29. -Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo Hernandez was in Argentina for the funeral rites of former Argentine President Nestor Kirchner, who will be buried on Friday in his hometown of Rio Gallegos.

Lazo arrived at about 11 p.m. at the Metropolitan Airport and was accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra.

Cuban President Raul Castro and leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro sent messages to President Cristina Fernandez, Kirchner's wife, and "We want to be present to offer our most sincere condolences," Lazo said.

"Amid this sorrow, we would like to reiterate the Cuban people´s friendship and solidarity with the Argentine people and government," he said.

Lazo Hernandez joined a group of Latin American leaders who arrived in Buenos Aires to pay their last respects to Kirchner, who died of a heart attack on Wednesday at the age of 60.

Bolivian President Evo Morales, Ecuador´s Rafael Correa, Uruguay´s Jose Mujica, Chile´s Sebastian Pinera, Colombia´s Juan Manuel Santos, Venezuela´s Hugo Chavez, Paraguay´s Fernando Lugo, and Brazil´s Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva all arrived in Argentina on Thursday to bid farewell to the Argentine leader.
