Havana, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Education Minister Ena Elsa Velazquez called on teachers throughout the country to improve their methodology preparations for the 2010-1011 school year, which begins September 6.
The current system of learning evaluation encourages study and training by students and their families but represents a challenge for teachers, who must constantly upgrade their learning, the minister said, speaking in the eastern province of Holguin.
She said the next school year will be vitally important for the incorporation of changes introduced during the 2009-2010 year, and will be significant on the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the socialist character of the Revolution and the Bay of Pigs victory.
According to the National News Agency, in a meeting with municipal school officials, Velazquez said the importance of students continuing their education after 9th grade is another priority for Cuba.
She said two other priorities were the battle to eradicate spelling problems from primary school to university, and emphasizing knowledge of local and national history in all grades.
