Cuba Expresses Support for Palestine in G77 plus China

United Nations, Jan 20 .-Palestine can have full support in its presidency of the Group of 77 (G77) plus China, a bloc that faces multiple challenges on issues such as sustainable development.

Cuba’s deputy permanent representative at the United Nations, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, stressed that with this leadership, the bloc vindicated again Palestine’s activism and outstanding role as a full member.

She also acknowledged the inalienable rights of that Arab people, according to a press release from the Cuban mission at the UN.

We are convinced that under Palestine’s presidency, the G77 plus China will continue strengthening its role in promoting and defending the interests of the countries from the South, the Cuban diplomat stressed.

The history of the bloc has been intertwined with that of the UN, as since its foundation on June 15, 1964, the G77 plus China has supported values such as unity, solidarity and cooperation, she said.

The Cuban representative acknowledged Egypt’s role during its presidency of the G77 plus China last year: professionalism, rigor, transparency and proven diplomatic skills were fundamental in the achievements made in 2018.

On January 15, Palestine took over the presidency of that bloc, a leadership that will be historic, according to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. (Prensa Latina)
