Community project favors environment in Cuban province
Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Jun 5.- Local people in Ciro Redondo municipality, in Ciego de Avila, Cuba, are developing a sociocultural project named EcoManosVerde, which is aimed at contributing to protect the environment.
The initiative promotes actions that protect the environment and human life, and the sowing and reproduction of endangered endemic plants, as well as the usa of solid residues.
Nelson Broche, promoter and coordinator of the program, said that nearly 40 people take part in the project by using their backyards to grow the plants and incorporate them into their natural environment.
In his words, it is a fully ecological project, as they produce compost and use biological resources such as insecticides.
The goal of the project is to turn the empty spaces into gardens in order to present a beautiful and healthy environment, in harmony with nature.
Broche said that he and his family are incorporated into the activity and over 500 species of cacti are already growing, many of which are exotic types. (Prensa Latina)
