Nicaragua to Get Disaster Mitigation Aid from Russia

Managua, Jan 27. -Nicaragua will have more collaboration from Russia in environmental emergency management to prevent and mitigate disasters, announced Coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council, Rosario Murillo.She explained that this strengthening of links is part of agreements signed during the latest round of the joint bilateral commission recently held in Moscow.

"Nicaragua is a highly seismic territory and we have to be ready to face such a contingency or others like heavy rain and out-of-season drought caused by climate change," noted Murillo.

She said that due to such phenomena, there are changes in the cycles of wildlife reproduction, new plagues emerge and the country's crops are affected.

Executive Secretary of the National Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention System (SINAPRED), Guillermo Gonzalez, who attended the Russia-Nicaragua talks, confirmed Russia's willingness to contribute to the construction of a hospital, said Murillo in TV-broadcast remarks. (Prensa Latina)
