Cuban Company Habaguanex Has Strong Impact on Tourism

Havana, Jan 21. -Eighteen years after its foundation, Cuban tourist company Habaguanex S.A. has today a strong impact on the country''s tourism in spite of being mainly linked to the old part of the capital.Named after a native cacique (chief) of the region, Habaguanex S.A. appeared in the tourist scene on January 6, 1994 and so it will be marking its anniversary through this month, pointed out an official note of the Cuban tourist company.

The note adds that Habaguanex runs the hotel and extra-hotel network that opens the doors of Old Havana to the world and is distinguished for being both a witness and major player in the recovery of the Historical Center, declared Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO in 1982. As a summary of its operations in 2011, the report points out that it meant a successful season with the opening of several restaurants, cafeterias and stores, such as the first Casa del Arroz (House of Rice), located at Plaza Vieja.

The report also reflects the appearance of the new store of Ceramicas Sargadelos, located on O'Reilly Street, or the new cafeteria La Pergola, on Obispo Street.

They had a process of remodeling hotels and restaurants which were reopened at the end of last year, as the Meson de la Flota (Tavern of the Fleet), hotels Florida and Marques de Prado Ameno, and the restaurants La Casa de la Parra and Torrelavega.

Habaguanex S.A's projections for this year include the opening of its hotel number 20, El Terral, located near the Malecon (Seaside Walk), and expected to be available to clients by mid 2011.

The firm deals with over 100 establishments in the old part of Havana, 2,2 square kms that preserve the traditions, culture and other important elements of the city. (Prensa Latina)
