AL Steps up Media, Political Campaign Against Syria
Damascus, Dec 22. -Amidst heightened media and political hostility, Syria receives today the first group of observers from the Arab League (AL), whose work the government hopes will be objective and reflect the reality of events in the country. The group of a total of 100 to 150 inspectors will visit Syria for a month, according to the protocol signed between Damascus and the AL. It is headed by Saif Samir al-Yazal, assistant to hte general secretary of that organization, Nabil al-Arabi.
The first team includes experts in security and legal and administrative matters, as announced in Cairo by deputy general secretary of the AL Ahmed bin Helli.
Syria agreed to sign the protocol after it made sure that the inspection plan does not violate its sovereignty.
Observers are free to go anywhere, and the Government will inform them if an area is safe or not, but if they want to take a risk that is their concern, the minister said, but stressed that Syria will ensure the visitors' safety.
The solution to the problem of security in the country depends on armed terrorist groups stopping their violent acts of assassinations, kidnappings and sabotages, while political issues will be resolved through national dialogue with all parties who do not respond to a foreign agenda, insisted al-Moallen.
Meanwhile, the U.S. accuses Damascus a priori of already violating agreements with the AL, while France denounces the government of Bashar al-Assad of committing a massacre in Idleb and Homs.
These two provinces are where there occur the most operations by the armed gangs made up of foreign mercenaries of the Al-Qaeda network, Salafi Jihad, brought from abroad to join Syrian extremists of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, mainly trained in Turkey and Northern Lebanon.
Western media and some Arabs conduct an increased media offensive against Syria, initially with contradictory information, but now all the channels seem to repeat a single script. (Prensa Latina)
