Cuba: Anti-Flu Vaccine Campaign to Begin
Havana, Nov 15. -Cuba will begin an anti-flu vaccination campaign on November 21, due to the increase of respiratory diseases in the country's population, Granma newspaper reported on Tuesday.According to the daily, the campaign corresponds to the annual seasonal period and will continue until December 21, 2011.
We have guaranteed all conditions, from disposable materials to the preparation and availability of the medical staff and institutions where the vaccination will be carried out, Maria del Carmen Machado, intensive pediatrics of the National Mother-Child department, stated.
According to a report from the Public Health Ministry, people over 85 years old, those with chronic cardiovascular and kidney diseases, immune-depressed persons, people with disabilities, and pregnant women between the second and third trimester, will be immunized, Machado said.
Also on the list are the medical staff working in intensive care units, as well as in pediatric, neonatal and emergency centers.
About 612,000 doses of the vaccine will be administrated during this season, Machado said. (Prensa Latina)
