USA Protesters to March from NYC to DC

Washington, Nov 10. -The Occupy Wall Street movement started on Thursday a march from New York to Washington DC. They are moving along the highway through rural communities protesting economic inequity and demanding more jobs.Protesters will march for two weeks through rural communities of several states. They have planned to walk 20 miles once a day from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, organizers announced.

According to OWS members, their main objective is to present to the Congress a request for the elimination of inequality and for rejecting Obama's extension of the Bush tax-cuts.

"Occupy the Highway" members departed Wednesday from Zuccotti Square in New York, where they have camped and conducted the protests since September 17.

Marchers left "Liberty Square" on Wednesday and marched to the New York Waterway/Hudson River Ferry and onward to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where they made their firsts stop to hold the first General Assembly.

The route includes communities like Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland; and meetings with Occupy Philadelphia and Occupy Baltimore. They are expected to arrive in DC by Nov 23 for the Congressional Super Committee meeting.

Meanwhile, protests continue in Oakland, where protesters have occupied streets and blocked access to banks, after a strike that stopped all operations at the port of that city on November 2. (Prensa Latina)
