General Assembly Debates 52 Disarmament Resolutions

United Nations, Nov 1. -The UN General Assembly on Tuesday analyzes about 52 draft resolutions on the most varied problems of disarmament, proposed by the First Commission.The package of initiatives was closed on Monday after almost one month of negotiations and includes issues that range from nuclear weapons to disarmament in the extraterrestrial space.

The texts are also on devices of mass destruction, conventional weapons, regional and general disarmament, international security and the prohibition of anti-personnel mines.

They also boost the revitalization of the Conference on Disarmament, the adoption of commitments on nuclear disarmament, and security assurances to the States that do no have that kind of armament.

Another document to analyze at the Assembly is the importance of the Regional Center for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to reports, the text states the role of that institution for the promotion and development of regional and sub-regional initiatives in several problems regarding the disarmament issue.

The commission prepared another proposal related to the UN Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific.(Prensa Latina)
