Libya: Rebels Call for Unity, Military Conflict Unresolved
Tripoli, Sep 9. -Leaders of the National Transitional Council (NTC), the group that led the uprising against leader Muammar Gaddafi, called for unity among Libyans on Friday, despite growing military tension in Bani Walid and Sirte.NTC Mahmoud Jibril confirmed that some southern cities were controlled by forces loyal to Gaddafi, whose whereabouts have been unknown since late August, a situation hindering the formation of a new government.
The stronghold of the rebels, whose uprising gained strength thanks to months of systematic and indiscriminate NATO air raids, has been gradually transferred to Tripoli with the goal of winning recognition and establishing a provisional cabinet.
Jibril disclosed that NTC leaders would complete their move from Benghazi, cradle of the rebellion, to the capital by the end of next week.
NTC leader Mustafa Abdul Jalil and Jibril urged Libyans to unite and referred to tolerance and forgiveness, but, at the same time, underlined they would continue hunting for Gaddafi, his sons and his closest collaborators. (Prensa Latina)
