15 Years’ Prison Requested for Former Cuban Official

Havana, Mar 24. -Cuban prosecutors asked for a 15-year prison sentence for the former minister of the food industry, Alejandro Roca, on charges of bribery and acts harmful to economic activity and contracting.

The People's Provincial Court of Cuba declared concluded the trial stage of the legal proceedings against Roca, who is now awaiting sentencing, Granma newspaper reported on Thursday.

Chilean businessman Joel Max Marambio was tried in absentia after he failed to appear in court, and prosecutors asked for a 20-year prison sentence for him on charges of bribery and falsification of bank and trade documents.

The court's decision in both cases will be announced in in the coming days. (Prensa Latina)
