Japan to Support Paraguayan Rural DevelopmentAsuncion, Dec 29. -According to an official source Japan will support Paraguay rural development through technical cooperation which includes donations of about 10 million dollars plus loans.

Makoto Kitanaka, director of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA, in Paraguay said that the project has an integrated development approach addressed to small farmers.

He also said that they are going to implement several initiatives, not only in agriculture but in health and drinkable water distribution in rural areas.

Kitanaka said that the project comprises a strategic economic and social plan with the objective to strengh the capacity of samll farmers and the improvement of competitiveness.

Kitanaka said that will be put into practice soon those projects that includes loans of 50 and 100 million dollars.

Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo said he is happy with this offer of the Japanese government which is part of the cooperation of that Asian country with Paraguay that has lasted for over 50 years. (Prensa Latina)
