Cuban 5 Cttee Demands Fair Treatment

Cuban 5 Cttee Demands Fair Treatment Washington, Jul 30. – The International Committee to Free the Cuban Five on Friday demanded freedom and fair treatment for antiterrorist fighter Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo, imprisoned in the United States.

Hernandez has been incommunicado in solidary confinement, known as the "hole," in a U.S. federal prison since July 21 without having committed any crime, the nongovernmental organization said in a press release.

The U.S. government has once again imposed cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of Hernandez, one of the five Cubans unjustly imprisoned in that country for fighting terrorism, the source states.

The hole is an subhuman space two meters long and one wide without any windows, and is reserved for isolating prisoners as punishment, the solidarity group said.
After 12 years of cruel confinement in the U.S. penitentiary in Lompoc, California, Hernandez is experiencing health problems. In April, he requested a medical consultation, but was not examined by a prison doctor until July 20, three months later, the note stresses.

In addition to high blood pressure, Hernandez had symptoms similar to those of other prisoners affected by a bacterium, and the doctor ordered tests. However, instead of tests and the treatment of his symptoms, he was abruptly sent to a punishment cell, the Free the Five Committee stated.

This latest outrage against Gerardo Hernandez takes place at a time when he should be preparing an appeal along with his lawyers for a habeas corpus he filed in June, the text recalled.

The California-based International Committee to Free the Five urges those who support these five peace-loving men to demand justice for the Cuban antiterrorist fighters from U.S. federal institutions.(Prensa Latina)
