Cuban Delegation Visits Syrian Medicines Plants

Damascus,  27 jul.- Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Business Group (BioCubaFarma) of Cuba has visited several medicines plants and it is making a working visit to Syria to foster collaboration with this Arab nation.

 

After holding meetings with the highest Syrian economic, banking and health authorities, the Cuban delegation headed by Normando Iznaga Escobar, Commercial and Business Director of BioCubaFrama, fulfilled a program of the Syrian Ministry of Health to visit two generic drug production plants, on the outskirts of Damascus.

The delegation toured the different sections of the new Mia Med drug plant built in 2018, and were informed of the process of manufacturing and production of serums.

In the city of Sednaya, north of Damascus, members of the Cuban delegation visited the Ultra Medical drug plant where they were aware of the production phases of some of the 200 drugs produced by this plant founded in 1955 and renovated in 2005.

The delegation shared with the directors of both plants the ways of collaboration in the joint production of medicines, taking advantage of the great experience and progress achieved by Cuba in the production of biotechnological medicines.

According to recent official figures, Syria currently has 89 drug factories, 65 of which are in the production phase and cover 90 percent of the needs of the national market.

Cuba has been supplying vaccines and medicines to Syria for the past few years, in a friendly initiative and expression of solidarity with this Arab nation facing a ferocious war imposed for more than eight years by the United States and its allies. (Latin Press)
