Pipeline in Cuban Western Province Repaired

Havana, May 19. – A section of 29 kilometers in the Cardenas-Matanzas pipeline is being repaired to prevent failures and guarantee security in handling crude oil and by-products, local media reported on Saturday.

Yuniel Martinez, head of the supervision group for the Oil Extraction and Drilling Enterprise (EPEP-C), noted that works include radiography, welding, resistance tests and other actions.

Experts consider the work should be completed in mid June.

Installed under the ground at a depth of 1.6 meters as an average, the pipeline has not stopped working during the repair.

The pipeline runs 42 kilometers from Cardenas to Matanzas.

Losses due to weather conditions were reduced, as well transportation costs. The risk of contamination by spill is almost nule.(Prensa Latina)
