MERCOSUR Ministers Tackle Regional SecurityAsuncion, Jun 18. -Interior ministers of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) plus Venezuela were in this capital on Friday to discuss organized crime and regional security.

The meeting was convened by Paraguayan Interior Minister Rafael Filizzola, and its aim is to present participants' experiences, according to a press release.

In their deliberations, delegates will foster regional integration and cooperation among MERCOSUR nations.

Gustavo Jalkn, Ecuadoran minister of government, police and religious affairs, met with Filizzola on Thursday to discuss issues such as public safety, police reform and modernization, human rights, transnational organized crime and police welfare.

Both ministers analyzed the need to ensure for their respective peoples a good life, social and human development, and public safety policies.

The Ecuadoran minister told reporters at the end of the forum that the people's social development would be impossible without a high level of security.

Today's event is being attended by Argentina's Julio Alak, Brazil's Luiz Paulo Teles, Uruguay's Eduardo Bonomi, Bolivia's Sacha Sergio Llorentty, Ecuador's Gustavo Jalkh, Venezuela's Miguel Contreras and Paraguay's Rafael Filizzola. (Prensa Latina)
